How To Know It’s Time To Remodel Your Kitchen

Don’t settle for an outdated kitchen. Start planning a remodel today!

The kitchen has been the heart of the home ever since the development of the eat-in kitchen brought all sorts of non-cooking activities into this room. We do homework and projects at the kitchen table, we linger at the breakfast counter and catch up with family, and – oh, yeah – we also cook our meals. We use the kitchen for so many things that of course technology has come to have a staring role. Here are some technology-related trends you can expect to see in kitchen upgrades and redesigns this year.

Outlets and Charging Stations

A lot of our tech travels into the kitchen with us, so the incorporation of more charging options is going to be a big trend this year. This could mean incorporating more electrical outlets in general, but more often it will mean converting the existing outlets to have standard and USB options. New kitchen designs will also often include designated charging stations that hide the wires out of sight or include wireless charging options. If you don’t want to lose counter space to these charging stations, they can even be tucked into drawers or cabinets.

Smart Appliances

Another big trend is towards smart technology. This refers to technology that is automated or interactive, like a fridge that you can check from your smartphone when you’re at the store or a coffee pot that you can turn on remotely when you get out of bed. Even our lights are getting smarter, with LED lights that can change color or intensity, all through an app on your phone.

Professional Grade Appliances

Another trend in home kitchens is the inclusion of appliances once limited to professional chefs. These include things like steam ovens, integrated fryers, teppanyaki griddles, and induction cooktops, to name a few, and they are popping up in home kitchens all over.

Hands-Free Faucets

Even faucets are getting upgrades, with the trend being towards hand-free options. Many of these you can turn on by just tapping anywhere on the faucet, but some include motion sensors and will turn on automatically when something is placed beneath them.

Countertops

Finally, this last tend is less about improvements in end-user technology. For a long time, granite countertops were the gold standard for kitchens. These days, however, we are busier than we’ve ever been. We don’t have time for the maintenance and upkeep that granite requires. Thankfully, technology has given us engineered quartz. This countertop is an ideal replacement for your old, dated countertops, and it maintenance-free.
